The average tuition charged by schools around the country that have online PhD in engineering programs is $12,776 yearly. There has been a 22% increase in the average tuition over the past few years. At these online schools the average tuition per year in 2007 was $10,471.

On the other end of the spectrum, tuition at the cheapest schools is in the range of $3,044 to $5,452 annually. Florida, Idaho, North Carolina, Utah, and Virginia are home to the most inexpensive accredited online engineering doctorate degree program schools.

In 2011, an estimated 26% of engineering graduates with PhD from online colleges across the country earned credentials from these cheap programs. Therefore, of the 1,355,467 graduates from around the US, 356,858 are from the most inexpensive schools. Between 2006 and 2011, the number of engineering graduates with doctorate degree programs from the least expensive online colleges has increased by 31,989 graduates yearly, while the percentage of graduates from these colleges has decreased.
Other somewhat more costly online engineering doctoral program colleges charge a yearly tuition in the range of $5,461 to $7,793. Roughly 13 of the 52 online schools that have PhD in engineering programs in the US charge tuition in this range.
A reported 22.6%, or 306,944 of the nation’s engineering PhD level graduates earned their degrees and certificates from these affordable online programs in 2011. A short 5 years prior, in 2006, only 285,362 students earned credentials from these colleges and universities. This is a 8% increase in the number of students graduating from these reasonably priced online schools.
